COFED: COrruption and Fraud Eradication using a US patented Device
About The Project Students

Goals

The main goal of COFED project is to improve security in societies based on the adoption of a comprehensive process using technology-advanced devices. This approach can help governments and official authorities to effectively monitor any tentative of fraud planned by criminals and law breakers to avoid tax payments through the traffic of counterfeit goods or through the dissemination of forged banknotes among others. This can be achieved through implementation of the following activities: 1. Propose effective solution to secure official papers based on features of the patented Smart Anticounterfeiting Optical System (SACOS). 2. Improve SACOS features by introducing additional technological components for sensing. 3. Design new version of SACOS for different end users. 4. Launch a website to promote globally SACOS concept. 5. Realize a market study on the need of securing valuable documents.

Challenges

The domain of security is usually reserved to specialists and government connected people. Companies working in the domain of security and anti-fraud solution providers are limited and usually not cooperative when it comes to propose a new solution able to overcome existing drawbacks on current security features used in banknotes, passports, visas and any other valuable document. However, since 2015, the PI was able to secure good connections with companies working on the improvement of security features and other companies involved in the manufactory of smart sensing devices to tackle counterfeiting in goods based on spectroscopy. The PI is suggesting to start with a case study in Lebanon which is going through serious reforms under the auspices of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the coming years. The proposal is to present sustainable solution to secure documentations at the state level starting by public notaries to reach other end users such as insurance companies, lawyers, physicians, pharmacists, etc.
